May Day Wishes

This morning, my darling Livvy asks me to help her publicly express her delight that her Daddy has a birthday today! She thought, since she spends so much time here being admired by the many, Eric might enjoy a few moments standing in our loving spotlight. She's so thoughtful already; just like her Mommy!

However, she also thinks that he might not want the world to know how many years old he is, so she and Laura did not make him a little pink sign to announce his achievement. So, Eric my nephew-in-law, Many Happy Returns of Your Day! You are the most wonderful man and I can't help but hope that this year is one of your best ever.

Can you think of a more wonderful day to have a birthday than on May Day!? It's so fun and light-hearted; full of possibility just bursting with growth and energy. And, those qualities are many of the ones that Eric possesses. We are blessed to have him as part of our clan.

So to honor, not only Eric, but also the turning of the wheel, I'm sending you warm May Day wishes in the verses of Fred Lowe's song, from Camelot, "The Lusty Month of May!" I don't believe there's a better song to express the giddy feeling of Beltane fun! Bright blessings for a Spring that adds color to your life and a path to bounty as the Summer unfolds.

Tra la! It's May!
The lusty month of May!
That lovely month when ev'ryone goes
Blissfully astray.

Tra la! It's here!
That shocking time of year
When tons of wicked little thoughts
Merrily appear!
It's May! It's May!
That gorgeous holiday
When ev'ry maiden prays that her lad
Will be a cad!

It's mad! It's gay!
A libelous display!
Those dreary vows that ev'ryone takes,
Ev'ryone breaks.
Ev'ryone makes divine mistakes
The lusty month of May!

Whence this fragrance wafting through the air?
What sweet feelings does its scent transmute?
Whence this perfume floating ev'rywhere?
Don't you know it's that dear forbidden fruit!

Tra la! It's May!
The lusty month of May!
That darling month when ev'ryone throws
Self-control away.

It's time to do
A wretched thing or two,
And try to make each precious day
One you'll always rue!

It's May! It's May!
The month of "yes you may,
The time for ev'ry frivolous whim,
Proper or "im."

It's wild! It's gay!
A blot in ev'ry way.
The birds and bees with all of their vast
Amorous past
Gaze at the human race aghast,
The lusty month of May.

It's May! It's May!
When all the world is brimming with fun,
Wholesome or "un."
It's mad! It's gay!
A libelous display!

Those dreary vows that ev'ryone takes,
Ev'ryone breaks.
Ev'ryone makes divine mistakes
The lusty month of May!

May Day is a wonderful day for a birthday! My dearly departed Grandmother Mille would have been 80 this May Day... Very bittersweet for me, as we always shared our birthdays, just 18 days and 50 years apart.
